Tulcea
One of the oldest settlements in Danube Delta’s area, Tulcea city has its origin in the II. Century, when in those places the Romans had built a port, sheltering the fleet. Later, surrounding this port were built more buildings defended by the lasting walls which have formed a fortress possessed by the Turks or Genovians and in 1390 belonged to the Mircea cel Batran reign. Between 1416-1877 the fortress was under Turkish reign and after the Independence War (1877-1878) the settlement became the provincial residence and developed economically and socially.
